Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”


Then David felt ashamed after he had counted the people. David said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly in what I did! Lord, I beg you, forgive me for my sin. I have been very foolish.”


Why don’t you just pardon me\par for doing wrong?\par Why don’t you just forgive me\par for my sins?\par Soon I will die and be in my grave.\par Then you will search for me,\par but I will be gone.”\par


Lord, accept my praise.\par And teach me your laws.\par


So bring your thank offerings {\cf2\super [301]} \par \{to share with the other worshipers\}\par and come to be with God.\par You made promises to God Most High,\par so give him the things you promised.\par


You don’t really want sacrifices. {\cf2\super [305]} \par So why should I give sacrifices\par that you don’t even want!\par


The sacrifice that God wants\par is an humble spirit. {\cf2\super [306]} \par God, you will not turn away a person\par who comes with an humble, submissive heart. {\cf2\super [307]} \par


Your sins were like a big cloud.\par But I wiped away those sins.\par Your sins are gone,\par like a cloud that disappeared into thin air.\par I rescued and protected you,\par so come back to me!”\par


The Seraph angel touched my mouth with the hot coal. Then the angel said, “Look! Because this hot coal touched your lips the wrong things you have done are gone from you. Your sins are now erased.”


Jeremiah, look toward the north and speak this message:


“Jacob {\cf2\super [133]} is a real businessman. He even cheats his friend! Even his scales {\cf2\super [134]} lie.


Israel’s pride is a witness against them. {\cf2\super [55]} So Israel and Ephraim will stumble in their sin. But Judah will also stumble with them.


Why? Because I want faithful love,\par not sacrifice,\par \{I want people\} to know God,\par not \{to bring\} burnt offerings.\par


Let the priests, the Lord’s servants,\par cry between the porch {\cf2\super [15]} and the altar. {\cf2\super [16]} \par All of those people should say these things:\par “Lord, have mercy on your people.\par Don’t let your people be put to shame.\par Don’t let other people tell jokes\par about your people.\par Don’t let people in other nations\par \{laugh at us and\} say,\par ‘Where is their God?’”\par


Salvation comes only from the Lord!\par “Lord, I will give sacrifices to you,\par and I will praise and thank you.\par I will make special promises to you,\par and I will do the things I promise.”\par


Then the angel said to the other angels standing near him, “Take those dirty clothes off of Joshua.” Then the angel spoke to Joshua. He said, “Now, I have taken away your guilt, and I am giving you a new change of clothes.”


\{You are not like God\}—you are evil. But you know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father will give good things to those people that ask him.


\{You are like all other people\}—you are evil. But you know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father knows how to give the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [200]} to those people that ask him.”


“The tax collector {\cf2\super [288]} stood alone too. But when he prayed, he would not even look up to heaven. The tax collector felt very humble before God. He said, ‘O God, have mercy on me. I am a sinner!’


The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him. John said, “Look, the Lamb of God. {\cf2\super [21]} He takes away the sins of the world!


And I will make this agreement with\par those people\par when I take away their sins.”\par \i (Isaiah 59:20-21; 27:9)\i0 \par


God saved us and made us his holy people. {\cf2\super [6]} That happened not because of anything we did ourselves. No! God saved us and made us his people because that was what he wanted and because of his grace (kindness). That grace was given to us through Christ Jesus before time began.


He gave himself for us. He died to free us from all evil. He died to make us pure people that belong only to him—people that are always wanting to do good things.


because it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.


So through Jesus we should never stop offering our sacrifice to God. That sacrifice is our praise, coming from lips that speak his name.


You also are like living stones. God is using you to build a spiritual temple. {\cf2\super [14]} You are to serve God in that temple as holy {\cf2\super [15]} priests. You are to give spiritual sacrifices {\cf2\super [16]} to God that he will accept because of Jesus Christ.


But you are chosen people. You are the King’s priests. You are a holy {\cf2\super [20]} nation of people. You are people who belong to God. God chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done. He called (brought) you out of darkness (sin) into his wonderful light.


God is in the light (goodness). We should live in the light, too. If we live in the light, then we share fellowship with each other. And when we live in the light, the blood (death) of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. (Jesus is God’s Son.)


You know that Christ came to take away people’s sins. There is no sin in Christ.
