And why \{do I not burden you\}? Do you think it is because I don’t love you? No. God knows that I love you.


So I am happy to give everything I have for you. I will even give myself for you. If I love you more, will you love me less?


I’m writing these things while I’m not with you. I’m writing so that when I come I will not have to use my power to punish you. The Lord gave me that power to make you stronger, not to destroy you.


You yourselves are our letter. That letter is written on our hearts. It is known and read by all people.


I wrote that letter, but not because of the one who did the wrong. And it was not written because of the person who was hurt. But I wrote that letter so that you could see, before God, the great care that you have for us.


And I know that I am right to think like this about all of you. I am sure because I have you in my heart—I feel very close to you. I feel close to you because all of you share in God’s grace (kindness) with me. You share in God’s grace with me while I am in prison, while I am defending the Good News, {\cf2\super [5]} and while I am proving the truth of the Good News.


We loved you very much. So we were happy to share God’s Good News {\cf2\super [7]} with you; but not only that—we were also happy to share even our own lives with you.
