So Abram moved his tent and went to live near the oaks of Mamre at Hebron,  where he built an altar to the Lord.


Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron  ) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.


Some time later, David enquired of the Lord:  ‘Should I go to one of the towns of Judah? ’ The Lord answered him, ‘Go.’ Then David asked, ‘Where should I go? ’ ‘To Hebron,’  the Lord replied.


The length of time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.


Then Ishbi-benob, one of the descendants of the giant,  whose bronze spear weighed about 3.5 kilograms  and who wore new armour, intended to kill David.

The people are strong and tall, the descendants of the Anakim.  You know about them and you have heard it said about them, “Who can stand up to the sons of Anak? ”


Next, Joshua and all Israel with him went up from Eglon to Hebron  and attacked it.
