Then Belshazzar gave an order, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a gold chain round his neck,  and issued a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

The king shouted to bring in the mediums, Chaldeans, and diviners. He said to these wise men of Babylon, ‘Whoever reads this inscription and gives me its interpretation will be clothed in purple, have a gold chain round his neck,  and have the third highest position in the kingdom.’

for I will greatly honour you and do whatever you ask me. So please come and put a curse on these people for me! ” ’

Balak asked Balaam, ‘Did I not send you an urgent summons? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I really not able to reward you? ’

The elders of Moab and Midian departed with fees for divination  in hand.  They came to Balaam and reported Balak’s words to him.

Now go to your home! I said I would reward you richly,  but look, the Lord has denied you a reward.’
