³ H4397But the angelH3068of the LORDH1696said[H8765] H452to ElijahH8664the TishbiteH6965, Arise[H8798] H5927, go up[H8798] H7125to meet[H8800] H4397the messengersH4428of the kingH8111of SamariaH1696, and say[H8761] H430unto them, Is it not because there is not a GodH3478in IsraelH1980, that ye go[H8802] H1875to enquire[H8800] H1176of BaalzebubH430the godH6138of Ekron?

⁴ H559Now therefore thus saith[H8804] H3068the LORDH3381, Thou shalt not come down[H8799] H4296from that bedH5927on which thou art gone up[H8804] H4191, but shalt surely[H8800] H4191die[H8799] H452. And ElijahH3212departed[H8799] .

⁵ H4397And when the messengersH7725turned back[H8799] H559unto him, he said[H8799] H2088unto them, Why are ye nowH7725turned back[H8804] ?

⁶ H559And they said[H8799] H5927unto him, There cameH376a manH5927up[H8804] H7125to meet[H8800] H559us, and said[H8799] H3212unto us, Go[H8798] H7725, turn again[H8798] H4428unto the kingH7971that sent[H8804] H1696you, and say[H8765] H559unto him, Thus saith[H8804] H3068the LORDH430, Is it not because there is not a GodH3478in IsraelH7971, that thou sendest[H8802] H1875to enquire[H8800] H1176of BaalzebubH430the godH6138of EkronH3381? therefore thou shalt not come down[H8799] H4296from that bedH5927on which thou art gone up[H8804] H4191, but shalt surely[H8800] H4191die[H8799] .

And he spake[H8762] H376unto him, Thou manH430of GodH4428, the kingH1696hath said[H8765] H3381, Come down[H8798] .

¹⁰ H452And ElijahH6030answered[H8799] H1696and said[H8762] H8269to the captainH2572of fiftyH376, If I be a manH430of GodH784, then let fireH3381come down[H8799] H8064from heavenH398, and consume[H8799] H2572thee and thy fiftyH3381. And there came down[H8799] H784fireH8064from heavenH398, and consumed[H8799] H2572him and his fifty.

¹¹ H7725Again[H8799] H7971also he sent[H8799] H312unto him anotherH8269captainH2572of fiftyH2572with his fiftyH6030. And he answered[H8799] H1696and said[H8762] H376unto him, O manH430of GodH4428, thus hath the kingH559said[H8804] H3381, Come down[H8798] H4120quickly.

¹² H452And ElijahH6030answered[H8799] H1696and said[H8762] H376unto them, If I be a manH430of GodH784, let fireH3381come down[H8799] H8064from heavenH398, and consume[H8799] H2572thee and thy fiftyH784. And the fireH430of GodH3381came down[H8799] H8064from heavenH398, and consumed[H8799] H2572him and his fifty.

¹³ H7971And he sent[H8799] H7725again[H8799] H8269a captainH7992of the thirdH2572fiftyH2572with his fiftyH7992. And the thirdH8269captainH2572of fiftyH5927went up[H8799] H935, and came[H8799] H3766and fell[H8799] H1290on his kneesH5048beforeH452ElijahH2603, and besought[H8691] H1696him, and said[H8762] H376unto him, O manH430of GodH5315, I pray thee, let my lifeH5315, and the lifeH2572of these fiftyH5650thy servantsH3365, be precious[H8799] H5869in thy sight.

¹⁴ H3381Behold, there cameH784fireH3381down[H8804] H8064from heavenH398, and burnt up[H8799] H8147the twoH8269captainsH7223of the formerH2572fiftiesH2572with their fiftiesH5315: therefore let my lifeH3365now be precious[H8799] H5869in thy sight.

¹⁵ H4397And the angelH3068of the LORDH1696said[H8762] H452unto ElijahH3381, Go down[H8798] H3372with him: be not afraid[H8799] H6440of himH6965. And he arose[H8799] H3381, and went down[H8799] H4428with him unto the king.

¹⁶ H1696And he said[H8762] H559unto him, Thus saith[H8804] H3068the LORDH7971, Forasmuch as thou hast sent[H8804] H4397messengersH1875to enquire[H8800] H1176of BaalzebubH430the godH6138of EkronH430, is it not because there is no GodH3478in IsraelH1875to enquire[H8800] H1697of his wordH3381? therefore thou shalt not come down[H8799] H4296off that bedH5927on which thou art gone up[H8804] H4191, but shalt surely[H8800] H4191die[H8799] .

¹⁷ H4191So he died[H8799] H1697according to the wordH3068of the LORDH452which ElijahH1696had spoken[H8765] H3088. And JehoramH4427reigned[H8799] H8147in his stead in the secondH8141yearH3088of JehoramH1121the sonH3092of JehoshaphatH4428kingH3063of JudahH1121; because he had no son.
