Job 41 - Easy To Read Version

“Job, can you catch Leviathan {\cf2\super [99]} with a fishhook?\par Can you tie his tongue with a rope?\par

Can you put a rope through his nose,\par or a hook through his jaw?\par

Will Leviathan beg you to let him go free?\par Will he speak to you with gentle words?\par

Will Leviathan\par make an agreement with you\par and promise to serve you forever?\par

Will you play with Leviathan\par like you would play with a bird?\par Will you put a rope on him\par so your servant girls can play with him?\par

Will fishermen try to buy\par Leviathan from you?\par Will they cut him in pieces\par and sell him to the merchants? {\cf2\super [100]} \par

Can you throw spears\par into Leviathan’s skin or head?\par

“Job, if you ever lay a hand on Leviathan,\par you will never do it again!\par Just think about the battle that would be!\par

Do you think you can defeat Leviathan?\par Well, forget it!\par There is no hope!\par Just looking at him will scare you!\par

No person is brave enough\par to wake him up and make him angry.\par

I (God) owe no person anything.\par Everything under heaven belongs to me. {\cf2\super [102]} \par

“Job, I will tell you about Leviathan’s legs,\par his strength and graceful shape.\par

No person can pierce his skin.\par His skin is like armor! {\cf2\super [103]} \par

No person can force Leviathan\par to open his jaws.\par The teeth in his mouth scare people.\par

Leviathan’s back has\par rows of shields tightly sealed together.\par

The shields are so close to each other\par that no air can pass between them.\par

The shields are joined to each other.\par They hold together so tightly\par that they can’t be pulled apart.\par

When Leviathan sneezes,\par it is like lightning flashing out.\par His eyes shine like the light of dawn.\par

Burning torches come out from his mouth.\par Sparks of fire shoot out.\par

Smoke pours from Leviathan’s nose\par like burning weeds under a boiling pot.\par

Leviathan’s breath\par makes coals burn,\par and flames shoot from his mouth.\par

Leviathan’s neck is very powerful,\par People are afraid and run away from him.\par

There is no soft spot in his skin.\par It is hard like iron.\par

Leviathan’s heart is like a rock,\par he has no fear.\par It is hard like a lower millstone. {\cf2\super [104]} \par

When Leviathan gets up,\par strong people are afraid.\par They run away\par when Leviathan swings his tail.\par

Swords, spears, and darts hit Leviathan,\par but they only bounce off.\par Those weapons don’t hurt him at all!\par

Leviathan breaks iron as easily as straw.\par He breaks bronze like rotten wood.\par

Arrows don’t make Leviathan run away.\par Rocks bounce off of him like straw.\par

When a wood club hits Leviathan,\par it feels like a piece of straw to him.\par He laughs when men throw spears at him.\par

The skin on Leviathan’s belly\par is like sharp pieces of broken pottery.\par He leaves tracks in the mud\par like a threshing board. {\cf2\super [105]} \par

Leviathan stirs up the water\par like a boiling pot.\par He makes it bubble like\par a pot of boiling oil.\par

When Leviathan swims,\par he leaves a path behind himself.\par He stirs up the water,\par and leaves white foam behind him.\par

No animal on earth is like Leviathan.\par He is an animal made without fear.\par

Leviathan looks down\par on the proudest animals.\par He is king over all the wild animals.\par
