Ezekiel 27 - Easy To Read Version

The word of the Lord came to me again. He said,

“Son of man, {\cf2\super [217]} sing this sad song about Tyre.

Say these things about Tyre:

The Mediterranean Sea is the border\par around your city.\par Your builders made you perfectly beautiful,\par \{like the ships that sail from you.\}\par

Your builders used cypress trees from\par the Senir mountains to make your planks.\par They used cedar trees from Lebanon\par to make your mast.\par

They used oak trees from Bashan\par to make your oars.\par They used pine trees from Cyprus\par to make the cabin on your deck. {\cf2\super [219]} \par They decorated that shelter with ivory.\par

For your sail,\par they used colorful linen made in Egypt.\par That sail was your flag.\par The coverings over your cabin\par were blue and purple.\par They came from the coast of Cyprus. {\cf2\super [220]} \par

Men from Sidon and Arvad\par rowed your boats for you.\par Tyre, your wise men were the pilots\par on your ships.\par

The elders and wise men from Byblos {\cf2\super [221]} \par were on board to help put caulking {\cf2\super [222]} \par between the boards on your ship.\par All the ships of the sea and their sailors\par came to trade and do business with you.’\par

“Men from Persia, Lud, and Put were in your army. They were your men of war. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls. They brought honor and glory to your city.

Men from Arvad and Cilicia were guards standing on the wall around your city. Men from Gammad were in your towers. They hung their shields on the walls around your city. They made your beauty complete.

“Tarshish {\cf2\super [223]} was one of your best customers. They traded silver, iron, tin, and lead for all the wonderful things you sold.

People in Greece, Turkey, and the area around the Black Sea traded with you. They traded slaves and bronze for the things you sold.

People from the nation {\cf2\super [224]} of Togarmah traded horses, war horses, and mules for the things you sold.

The people of Rhodes {\cf2\super [225]} traded with you. You sold your things in many places. People brought ivory tusks and ebony wood to pay you.

Aram traded with you because you had so many good things. They traded emeralds, purple cloth, fine needlework, fine linen, coral {\cf2\super [226]} and rubies for the things you sold.

“The people in Judah and Israel traded with you. They paid for the things you sold with the wheat, olives, early figs, honey, oil, and balm. {\cf2\super [227]}

Damascus was a good customer. They traded with you for the many wonderful things you had. They traded wine from Helbon and white wool for those things.

Damascus traded wine from Uzal for the things you sold. They paid wrought iron, cassia {\cf2\super [228]} and sugar cane for those things.

Dedan provided good business. They traded with you for saddlecloths and for riding horses.

Arabia and all the leaders of Kedar traded lambs, rams, and goats for your goods.

The merchants {\cf2\super [229]} of Sheba and Raamah traded with you. They traded all the best spices and every kind of precious stone and gold for your goods.

Haran, Canneh, Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur and Kilmad traded with you.

They paid with the best clothes, clothes from blue and fine needlework, carpets of many colors, tightly wound ropes and \{things made from\} cedar wood. These were the things they traded with you.

The ships of Tarshish carried the things you sold.

Your oarsmen rowed you far out to sea.\par But a powerful east wind\par will destroy your ship at sea.\par

And all your wealth will spill into the sea.\par Your wealth—\par the things you buy and sell—\par will spill into the sea.\par Your whole crew—\par sailors, pilots, and the men who\par put caulking {\cf2\super [230]} between the boards\par on your ship—\par will spill into the sea.\par The merchants {\cf2\super [231]} and soldiers in your city,\par will all sink into the sea.\par That will happen on the day\par that you are destroyed!\par

“You send your businessmen\par to faraway places.\par Those places will shake with fear\par when they hear your pilot’s cry!\par

Your whole crew will jump ship.\par The sailors and pilots will jump ship\par and swim to the shore.\par

They will be very sad about you.\par They will cry,\par throw dust on their heads,\par and roll in ashes.\par

They will shave their heads for you.\par They will put on clothes of sadness.\par They will cry for you like someone crying\par for a person that died.\par

“And in their heavy crying they will sing this sad song about you, and cry about you.

Your businessmen sailed across the seas.\par You satisfied many people\par with your great wealth\par and the things you sold.\par You made the kings of the earth rich!\par

But now you are broken by the seas,\par and by the deep waters.\par All the things you sell\par and all your people have fallen!\par

All the people living on the coast\par are shocked about you.\par Their kings are terribly afraid.\par Their faces show their shock.\par

The merchants {\cf2\super [232]} in other nations\par whistle about you.\par The things that happened to you\par will scare people.\par Why? Because you are finished.\par You will be no more.’”\par
