Waters had cover'd us, our soul had sunk beneath the stream.


As Hermon's dew, the dew that doth on Sion' hills descend: For there the blessing God commands, life that shall never end.


And in his glory excellent let all his saints rejoice: Let them to him upon their beds aloud lift up their voice.


I bless the Lord, because he doth by counsel me conduct; And in the seasons of the night my reins do me instruct.


The Lord's my light and saving health, who shall make me dismay'd? My life's strength is the Lord, of whom then shall I be afraid?


Thou art my hiding-place, thou shalt from trouble keep me free: Thou with songs of deliverance about shalt compass me.


Thou art my King: for Jacob, Lord, deliv'rances command.


From heav'n he shall send down, and me from his reproach defend That would devour me: God his truth and mercy forth shall send.


When I do thee upon my bed remember with delight, And when on thee I meditate in watches of the night.


By night my song I call to mind, and commune with my heart; My sp'rit did carefully enquire how I might ease my smart.


Thou hast put far from me my friends, thou mad'st them to abhor me; And I am so shut up, that I find no evasion for me.
