there was once a small city with only a few people in it. And a powerful king came against it, surrounded it and built huge siege works against it.


‘Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the king of Assyria: ‘He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it.


He will ravage your settlements on the mainland with the sword; he will set up siege works against you, build a ramp up to your walls and raise his shields against you.


Then lay siege to it: erect siege works against it, build a ramp up to it, set up camps against it and put battering-rams around it.


The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.


and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes.
