Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them.


‘If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways,


They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so that they cannot see, and their minds closed so that they cannot understand.


If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.


Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.


If you do not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly, overflowing with tears, because the Lord’s flock will be taken captive.


Say to them, “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?”


As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it


The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.


They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognise the time of God’s coming to you.’


You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.


Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: ‘We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.


If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be!


Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children for ever!


But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today’, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.


As has just been said: ‘Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.’
