In that same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphra´tes:


And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.


And Hadare´zer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river; and they came to Helam: and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadare´zer went before them.


And when all the kings that were servants to Hadare´zer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.


And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth–re´hob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Ma´acah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.

And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.


And David smote Hadare´zer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphra´tes.


And Solomon went to Ha´math–zo´bah, and prevailed against it.

So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them.
