Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.


For through the anger of the Lord it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedeki´ah rebelled against the king of Babylon.


Then the people of the land took Jeho´ahaz the son of Josi´ah, and made him king in his father's stead in Jerusalem.


Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.


I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?


The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon;


behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the Lord, and Nebuchadrez´zar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.


The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, in the days of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, saying,


But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chalde´ans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.


And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,


The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neri´ah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, saying,


against Egypt, against the army of Pha´raoh–ne´cho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphra´tes in Car´chemish, which Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah.


Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.


Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.


Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite thine hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which entereth into their privy chambers.


In the third year of the reign of Jehoi´akim king of Judah came Nebuchadnez´zar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.


And the Lord gave Jehoi´akim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.


For, lo, I raise up the Chalde´ans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that are not theirs.
