In his days Nebuchadnez´zar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoi´akim became his servant three years: then he turned and rebelled against him.


Jehoi´akim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord his God.


The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon;


In the beginning of the reign of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah came this word from the Lord, saying,


and I gave the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neri´ah, the son of Ma-asei´ah, in the sight of Han´ameel mine uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.


Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neri´ah, I prayed unto the Lord, saying,


And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,


Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josi´ah, even unto this day.


But the king commanded Jerah´meel the son of Ham´melech, and Serai´ah the son of Az´ri-el, and Shelemi´ah the son of Ab´deel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the Lord hid them.


Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neri´ah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoi´akim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.


Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neri´ah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.


Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;


against Egypt, against the army of Pha´raoh–ne´cho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphra´tes in Car´chemish, which Nebuchadrez´zar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah.


The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Serai´ah the son of Neri´ah, the son of Ma-asei´ah, when he went with Zedeki´ah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Serai´ah was a quiet prince.


In the third year of the reign of Jehoi´akim king of Judah came Nebuchadnez´zar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
