Jeremiah 2:29
8 Tagairtí Cros

“Judah, how can you say to me,\par ‘I am not guilty;\par I have not worshiped the Baal {\cf2\super [13]} idols’?\par Think about the things you did in the valley.\par Think about what you have done.\par You are like a fast she-camel\par that runs from place to place.\par

But still, you say,\par ‘I am innocent.\par God is not angry with me.’\par So I will also judge you guilty \{of lying\}.\par Why? Because you say,\par ‘I have done nothing wrong.’\par

“Look up to the bare hilltops, Judah.\par Is there any place where you have not\par had sex with your lovers (false gods)?\par You have sat by the road waiting for lovers,\par like an Arab waiting in the desert.\par You made the land ‘dirty’!\par How? You did many bad things\par and you were unfaithful to me.\par

The Lord says,\} “Walk the streets of Jerusalem. Look around and think about these things. Search the public squares of the city. See if you can find one good person, one person that does honest things, one that searches for the truth. If you find one good person, I will forgive Jerusalem!

“All the people of Israel want\par more and more money.\par All the people, from the least important\par to the most important people,\par are like that.\par All the people,\par from prophets to priests\par tell lies.\par

None of the people of Israel obeyed your teachings. They all have turned away. They did not obey you. There are curses {\cf2\super [101]} and promises written in the Law of Moses. (Moses was God’s servant.) Those curses and promises tell about the punishment for not obeying the law—and all those things have happened to us. Those things happened to us because we sinned against the Lord.

These things the law {\cf2\super [28]} says are for the people that are under the law. This stops all \{Jewish\} people from making excuses and brings the whole world (Jews and non-Jews) under God’s judgment.
