Sarai did not have any children because she was not able to have children.


Sarai was Abram’s wife. She and Abram had no children. Sarai had a servant from Egypt. Her name was Hagar.


Isaac’s wife could not have children. So Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife. The Lord heard Isaac’s prayer. And the Lord allowed Rebekah to become pregnant.


After that Esau hated Jacob because of this blessing. Esau thought to himself, “My father will soon die, and there will be a time of sadness for him. But after that I will kill Jacob.”


So Jacob had sexual relations with Rachel also. And Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah. Jacob worked for Laban for another seven years.


Leah gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben. [166] Leah named him this because she said, “The Lord has seen my troubles. My husband doesn’t love me. So now maybe my husband will love me.”


Then God heard Rachel’s prayer. God made it possible for Rachel to have children.


Jacob and Leah’s sons were: Jacob’s firstborn son Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.


Children are a gift {\cf2\super [612]} from the Lord.\par They are a reward from a mother’s body.\par


Then the Lord said, “I have seen the troubles my people have suffered in Egypt. And I have heard their cries when the Egyptians hurt them. I know about their pain.


And I did not accept {\cf2\super [2]} Esau. I destroyed Esau’s hill-country. {\cf2\super [3]} Esau’s country was destroyed, and now only wild dogs {\cf2\super [4]} live there.”


“Any person that loves his father or mother more than he loves me is not good enough to follow me. Any person who loves his son or daughter more than he loves me is not good enough to follow me.


“No person can serve two masters at the same time. He will hate one master and love the other master. Or he will follow one master and refuse to follow the other master. So you cannot serve God and Money {\cf2\super [81]} at the same time.


But Zechariah and Elizabeth had no children. Elizabeth could not have a baby; and both of them were very old.


“If a person comes to me, but will not leave his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, or sisters, then that person cannot be my follower. A person must love me more than he loves anything—even his own life!


The person that loves his own life will lose it. But the person that hates his life in this world will keep it. He will have life forever.


God made an agreement with Abraham; the sign for this agreement was circumcision. {\cf2\super [126]} And so when Abraham had a son, he circumcised his son when he was eight days old. His son’s name was Isaac. Isaac also circumcised his son Jacob. And Jacob did the same for \{his sons. These sons later became\} the twelve fathers. {\cf2\super [127]}


“A man might have two wives. And he might love one wife more than the other. Both wives might have children for him. And the first child might be the child of the wife he does not love.


So Boaz married Ruth. The Lord allowed Ruth to become pregnant, and she had a son.


By that time the following year, Hannah had become pregnant and had a son. Hannah named her son Samuel. [11] She said, “His name is Samuel because I asked the Lord for him.”


I prayed for this child, and the Lord answered my prayer. The Lord gave me this child.


Elkanah always gave an equal share [6] of the food to Hannah. Elkanah did this even though the Lord had not let Hannah have any children. Elkanah did this because Hannah was the wife he really loved.


the Lord was kind to Hannah. She had three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew up {at the holy place} near the Lord.
