The Lord tore open the sky and came down! He stood on a thick, dark cloud!


After the earthquake, there was a fire. But that fire was not the Lord. After the fire, there was a quiet, gentle voice. [212]


The Lord was hidden in the dark clouds\par that surrounded him like a tent.\par He was hidden in the thick thunder clouds.\par


Thick dark clouds surround the Lord.\par Goodness and justice make his kingdom strong.\par


And the Lord said to Moses, “I will come to you in the thick cloud. I will speak to you. All of the people will hear me talking to you. I will do this so that the people will always believe the things you tell them.”


Then the Lord spoke to you from the fire. You heard the sound of someone speaking, but you did not see any form. There was only a voice.


“You heard the voice from the darkness while the mountain was burning with fire. Then all the elders [32] and the other leaders of your family groups came to me.
