Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground  and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils,  and the man became a living being.


The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty  gives me life.


He said to me, ‘Prophesy to the breath,  prophesy, son of man. Say to it: This is what the Lord God says: Breath, come from the four winds and breathe into these slain so that they may live! ’


And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor   , to be with you for ever.


‘When the Counsellor   comes, the one I will send to you from the Father   #– #the Spirit of truth   who proceeds from the Father #– #he will testify about me.


Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth.   It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counsellor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.


Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me,   I also send you.’


If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’


He said this about the Spirit.  Those who believed in Jesus were going to receive the Spirit,  for the Spirit  had not yet been given  because Jesus had not yet been glorified.


‘Can anyone withhold water and prevent these people from being baptised, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? ’


and asked them, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? ’ ‘No,’ they told him, ‘we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.’


Peter replied, ‘Repent  and be baptised,  each of you, in the name  of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.


Then they were all filled  with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues,  as the Spirit enabled them.


Then Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders:  ,


After they went down there, they prayed for them so that the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit because he had not yet come down on any of them.


I only want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by believing what you heard?
