until the Spirit  from on high is poured out on us. Then the desert will become an orchard, and the orchard will seem like a forest.


‘The Redeemer  will come to Zion, and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression.’ This is the  Lord’s declaration.


‘As for me, this is my covenant with them,’  says the Lord: ‘My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth,  will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of your children’s children, from now on and for ever,’ says the Lord.


I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel.’  This is the declaration of the Lord God.


‘Then I will pour out a spirit  , of grace and prayer on the house of David and the residents of Jerusalem, and they will look at  me whom they pierced. They will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child and weep bitterly for him as one weeps for a firstborn.


Go, therefore, and make disciples   of   all nations,   baptising   them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,


and saying, ‘Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near! ’


and they were baptised by him in the River Jordan, confessing their sins.


From then on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, because the kingdom of heaven   has come near.’

Therefore repent  and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out,


God exalted this man to his right hand as ruler and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.


But when they believed Philip, as he proclaimed the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptised.


But Peter told him, ‘May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!


Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptised  into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death?


In him we have redemption  through his blood, the forgiveness  of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace


he saved us   #– #not by works of righteousness that we had done,  but according to his mercy   #– #through the washing of regeneration  and renewal by the Holy Spirit.


Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not as the removal of dirt from the body,  but the pledge  of a good conscience towards God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
