John 19:1

I gave my back to those who beat me, and my cheeks to those who tore out my beard. I did not hide my face from scorn and spitting.


But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment  for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.


They will hand him over to the Gentiles   to be mocked, flogged,   and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised.’


This is why I am sending you prophets,   wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues   and pursue from town to town.


and after they flog him, they will kill him, and he will rise on the third day.’


Therefore, I will have him whipped  , and then release him.’


But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that he be crucified, and their voices  prevailed.


Five times I received the forty lashes minus one from the Jews.


Others experienced mocking and scourging, as well as bonds and imprisonment.


He himself bore our sins  in his body  on the tree;  so that, having died to sins,  we might live for righteousness.  By his wounds   , you have been healed.
