The Lord said, ‘If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.’


If the Lord of Armies had not left us a few survivors, we would be like Sodom, we would resemble Gomorrah.


The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.


Israel, even if your people were as numerous as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction has been decreed; justice overflows.


I will delay my anger for the sake of my name, and I will restrain myself for your benefit and for my praise, so that you will not be destroyed.


Though a tenth will remain in the land, it will be burned again. Like the terebinth or the oak that leaves a stump when felled, the holy seed  is the stump.


For I will be with you – this is the  Lord’s declaration – to save you! I will bring destruction on all the nations where I have scattered you; however, I will not bring destruction on you. I will discipline you justly, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.


Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind him, so that you can offer a grain offering and a drink offering to the Lord your God.


Unless those days were cut short, no one would   be saved. But those days will be cut short because of the elect.


If the Lord   had not cut those days short,   no one would be saved. But he cut those days short for the sake of the elect,   whom he chose.
