The sons of the prophets  said to Elisha, ‘Please notice that the place where we live under your supervision  is too small for us.


For when he sees his children, the work of my hands within his nation, they will honour my name, they will honour the Holy One of Jacob and stand in awe of the God of Israel.


For the Lord will comfort Zion; he will comfort all her waste places, and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the  Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and melodious song.


Raise your eyes and look round: they all gather and come to you; your sons will come from far away, and your daughters on the hips of nursing mothers.


Yet the number of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or counted. And in the place where they were told: You are not my people, they will be called: Sons of the living God.


I will bring them back from the land of Egypt and gather them from Assyria. I will bring them to the land of Gilead and to Lebanon, but it will not be enough for them.


He said to him, ‘Run and tell this young man: Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the number of people and animals in it.’


And don’t presume to say to yourselves, “We have Abraham as our father.”  For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.
