Abraham replied, ‘I thought, “There is absolutely no fear of God in this place.  They will kill me because of my wife.”


No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do this immense evil, and how could I sin against God? ’


If you are honest, let one of you  be confined to the guardhouse, while the rest of you go and take grain to relieve the hunger of your households.


The governors  who preceded me had heavily burdened the people, taking from them food and wine as well as half a kilogram  of silver. Their subordinates also oppressed the people, but because of the fear of God, I didn’t do this.


Then I said, ‘What you are doing isn’t right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God  and not invite the reproach of our foreign enemies?


There was a man in the country of Uz  named Job.  He was a man of complete integrity,  who feared God and turned away from evil.


The midwives, however, feared God  and did not do as the king of Egypt had told them;  they let the boys live.


But you should select from all the people able men, God-fearing, trustworthy, and hating dishonest profit.  Place them over the people as commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.


You are not to cheat one another, but fear your God, for I am the Lord your God.


You are not to rule over them harshly  but fear your God.
