and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guards  in the prison where Joseph was confined.


Now the famine had spread across the whole region, so Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.


‘We are all sons of one man. We are honest; your servants are not spies.’


On the third day Joseph said to them, ‘I fear God   #– #do this and you will live.


Bring your youngest brother to me so that your words can be confirmed; then you won’t die.’ And they consented to this.


They loaded the grain on their donkeys and left there.


The man who is the lord of the country said to us, “This is how I will know if you are honest: leave one brother with me, take food to relieve the hunger of your households, and go.


He sent his father the following: ten donkeys carrying the best products of Egypt and ten female donkeys carrying grain, food, and provisions for his father on the journey.


But this is a people plundered and looted, all of them trapped in holes or imprisoned in dungeons. They have become plunder with no one to rescue them and loot, with no one saying, ‘Give it back! ’


in order to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those sitting in darkness from the prison house.


The officials were angry at Jeremiah and beat him and placed him in jail in the house of Jonathan  the scribe, for it had been made into a prison.
