As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, ‘Follow me,’ and he got up and followed him.
He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.’
He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.
Then, passing by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, ‘Follow me,’ and he got up and followed him.
He did not let anyone accompany him except Peter, James, and John, James’s brother.
After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain by themselves to be alone. He was transfigured in front of them,
Then he will show you a large, furnished room upstairs. Make the preparations there.’
Then Thomas (called ‘Twin’ ) said to his fellow disciples, ‘Let’s go too so that we may die with him.’
Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, ‘Lord, how is it you’re going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world? ’
Then the servant girl who was the doorkeeper said to Peter, ‘You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you? ’ ‘I am not,’ he said.
Simon Peter, Thomas (called ‘Twin’ ), Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, Zebedee’s sons, and two others of his disciples were together.
Motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. ‘Tell these things to James and the brothers,’ he said, and he left and went to another place.
After they stopped speaking, James responded, ‘Brothers, listen to me.
Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them, ‘Fellow Jews and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and pay attention to my words.
Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptised, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
When they observed the boldness of Peter and John and realised that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and recognised that they had been with Jesus.
Peter and John answered them, ‘Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;
But I didn’t see any of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother.
When James, Cephas, , and John #– #those recognised as pillars #– #acknowledged the grace that had been given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to me and Barnabas, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.
