Now the advice Ahithophel gave in those days was like someone asking about a word from God #– #such was the regard that both David and Absalom had for Ahithophel’s advice.
Since the Lord had decreed that Ahithophel’s good advice be undermined in order to bring about Absalom’s ruin, Absalom and all the men of Israel said, ‘The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than Ahithophel’s advice.’
When Ahithophel realised that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his home town. He set his house in order and hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.
Then Absalom said, ‘Summon Hushai the Archite also. Let’s hear what he has to say as well.’
Hushai replied to Absalom, ‘The advice Ahithophel has given this time is not good.’
He frustrates the schemes of the crafty so that they achieve no success.
Egypt’s spirit will be disturbed within it, and I will frustrate its plans. Then they will enquire of worthless idols, ghosts, mediums, and spiritists.
who destroys the omens of the false prophets and makes fools of diviners; who confounds the wise and makes their knowledge foolishness;
‘I’m not speaking about all of you; I know those I have chosen. But the Scripture must be fulfilled: The one who eats my bread has raised his heel against me. ,
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish?
Such wisdom does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
