28 Tagairtí Cros

Then someone reported to David, ‘Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.’ ‘Lord,’ David pleaded, ‘please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness! ’

Now the advice Ahithophel gave in those days was like someone asking about a word from God   #– #such was the regard that both David and Absalom had for Ahithophel’s advice.

Since the Lord had decreed  that Ahithophel’s good advice be undermined  in order to bring about Absalom’s ruin, Absalom and all the men of Israel said, ‘The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than Ahithophel’s advice.’

When Ahithophel realised that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his home town. He set his house in order and hanged himself.  So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.

He leads counsellors away barefoot and makes judges go mad.

He deprives trusted advisers of speech and takes away the elders’ good judgement.

He deprives the world’s leaders of reason, and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland.

Your mind will meditate on the past terror: ‘Where is the accountant? Where is the tribute collector? Where is the one who spied out our defences? ’

who destroys the omens of the false prophets and makes fools of diviners; who confounds the wise and makes their knowledge foolishness;

Who has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of the  Lord   been revealed?

Who should not fear you, King of the nations? It is what you deserve. For among all the wise people of the nations and among all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.

Now the one sown among the thorns #– #this is one who hears the word, but the worries of this age   and the deceitfulness   of wealth   choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Now is the judgement of this world.   Now the ruler of this world   will be cast out.

Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also debated with him. Some said, ‘What is this ignorant show-off  trying to say? ’ Others replied, ‘He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities’ #– #because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.

For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world,  being understood through what he has made.  As a result, people are without excuse.

Claiming to be wise, they became fools

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the intelligence of the intelligent.   ,

Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective,  not many powerful,  not many of noble birth.

Instead, God has chosen  what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.

God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world   #– #what is viewed as nothing #– #to bring to nothing what is viewed as something,

but when we are judged  by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we may not be condemned  with the world.

We do, however, speak a wisdom among the mature,  but not a wisdom of this age, or of the rulers  of this age, who are coming to nothing.

None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, because if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Let no one deceive  himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age,  let him become a fool  so that he can become wise.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness  with God, since it is written,  He catches the wise in their craftiness;  ,

Or don’t you know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the trivial cases?

You adulterous people!  Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility towards God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.
