Then God said to him in the dream, ‘Yes, I know that you did this with a clear conscience.  I have also kept you from sinning against me. Therefore I have not let you touch her.


Then the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal: ‘Don’t give up on your servants. Come quickly and save us! Help us, for all the Amorite kings living in the hill country have joined forces against us.’


So Joshua caught them by surprise, after marching all night from Gilgal.


The next day Saul organised the troops into three divisions.  During the morning watch, they invaded the Ammonite camp and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. There were survivors, but they were so scattered that no two of them were left together.


Abigail hurried, taking two hundred loaves of bread, two clay jars of wine, five butchered sheep, thirty-seven litres  of roasted grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of pressed figs, and loaded them on donkeys.


May God punish me  and do so severely  if I let any of his males  survive until morning.’


Now my lord, as surely as the Lord lives and as you yourself live #– #it is the Lord who kept you from participating in bloodshed and avenging yourself  by your own hand–may your enemies and those who intend to harm my lord be like Nabal.


When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, ‘Blessed be the Lord who championed my cause against Nabal’s insults  and restrained his servant from doing evil.  The Lord brought Nabal’s evil deeds back on his own head.’ Then David sent messengers to speak to Abigail about marrying him.
