Splendour and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.


He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.


Look up and see! Who created  these? He brings out the stars by number; he calls all of them by name. Because of his great power and strength, not one of them is missing.


This is what God, the Lord, says – who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk on it   –


This is what the Lord, your Redeemer  who formed you from the womb,  says: I am the Lord, who made everything; who stretched out the heavens by myself; who alone spread out the earth;


Do not turn to worthless idols  or make cast images  of gods for yourselves;  I am the Lord your God.


You see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this man Paul has persuaded and misled a considerable number of people by saying that gods made by hand are not gods.


About eating food sacrificed to idols, then, we know that ‘an idol is nothing in the world’,  and that ‘there is no God but one’.


He spoke with a loud voice:  ‘Fear God  and give him glory,  because the hour of his judgement has come.  Worship the one who made heaven and earth,  the sea and the springs of water.’
