26 You see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this man Paul has persuaded and misled a considerable number of people by saying that gods made by hand are not gods.

You are to say this to them: ‘The gods that did not make the heavens  and the earth will perish from the earth  and from under these heavens.’


For this thing is from Israel – a craftsman made it,  and it is not God. The calf of Samaria will be smashed to bits!


‘People! Why are you doing these things? We are people also, just like you, and we are proclaiming good news to you, that you turn from these worthless things  to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.  ,


Since, then, we are God’s offspring, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination.


When they reached Ephesus  he left them there, but he himself entered the synagogue and debated with the Jews.


While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul travelled through the interior regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples


This went on for two years, so that all the residents of Asia, both Jews and Greeks,  heard the word of the Lord.


When he had assembled them, as well as the workers engaged in this type of business, he said, ‘Men, you know that our prosperity is derived from this business.


You know that when you were pagans, you used to be enticed and led astray by mute  idols.


About eating food sacrificed to idols, then, we know that ‘an idol is nothing in the world’,  and that ‘there is no God but one’.


But in the past, since you didn’t know God,  you were enslaved to things  that by nature are not gods.


There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see, hear, eat, or smell.


for they themselves report  what kind of reception  we had from you: how you turned  to God from idols  to serve the living  and true  God


The rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands  to stop worshipping demons  and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood,  which cannot see, hear, or walk.
