Psalm 72

¹ God, help the king make wise decisions like you.\par And help the king’s son learn about your goodness.\par

² Help the king judge your people fairly.\par Help him make wise decisions for your poor people.\par

³ Let there be peace and justice throughout the land.\par

⁴ Let the king be fair to the poor people.\par Let him help the helpless.\par Let him punish the people who hurt them.\par

⁵ May people fear and respect the king\par as long as the sun shines\par and the moon is in the sky.\par May people fear and respect him forever!\par

⁶ Help the king be\par like rain falling on the fields,\par like showers falling on the land.\par

⁷ Let goodness blossom while he is king.\par Let peace continue as long as the moon.\par

⁸ Let his kingdom grow from sea to sea,\par from the \{Euphrates\} River\par to the faraway places on earth. {\cf2\super [411]} \par

⁹ May all the people living in the desert\par bow down to him.\par May all his enemies bow before him\par with their faces in the dirt.\par

¹⁰ May the kings of Tarshish {\cf2\super [412]} \par and all the faraway lands\par bring gifts to him.\par May the kings of Sheba and Seba\par bring their tribute {\cf2\super [413]} to him.\par

¹¹ May all kings bow down to our king.\par May all nations serve him.\par

¹² Our king helps the helpless.\par Our king helps poor, helpless people.\par

¹³ Poor, helpless people depend on him.\par The king keeps them alive.\par

¹⁴ The king saves them from cruel people\par who try to hurt them.\par The lives of those poor people are\par very important to the king.\par

¹⁵ Long live the king!\par And let him receive gold from Sheba.\par Always pray for the king.\par Bless him every day.\par

¹⁶ May the fields grow plenty of grain.\par May the hills be covered with crops.\par May the fields be as fertile as Lebanon.\par And may the cities be filled with people\par like fields covered with grass.\par

¹⁷ May the king be famous forever.\par May people remember his name\par as long as the sun shines.\par May the people be blessed by him.\par And may they all bless him.\par

¹⁸ Praise the Lord God, the God of Israel!\par Only God can do such amazing things.\par

¹⁹ Praise his glorious name forever!\par Let his glory fill the whole world!\par Amen and Amen! {\cf2\super [414]} \par
