Jeremiah 47

¹ This is the message from the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet. This message is about the Philistine people. This message came before Pharaoh attacked the city of Gaza.

² The Lord says:\par “Look, \{the enemy soldiers\par are meeting together\} in the north. {\cf2\super [372]} \par They will come like a fast river\par spilling over its banks.\par They will cover the whole country\par like a flood.\par They will cover the towns\par and the people living in them.\par Everyone living in that country\par will cry for help.\par

³ They will hear the sound of running horses,\par the noisy chariots, the rumbling wheels.\par Fathers won’t be able to protect their children.\par They will be too weak to help.\par

⁴ Why? Because the time has come\par to destroy all the Philistine people\par The time has come to destroy\par Tyre and Sidon’s remaining helpers.\par The Lord will destroy the Philistine people.\par He will destroy the survivors\par from the Island of Crete. {\cf2\super [373]} \par

⁵ The people from Gaza will be sad\par and shave their heads.\par The people from Ashkelon will be silenced.\par Survivors from the valley,\par how long will you cut yourselves? {\cf2\super [374]} \par

⁶ “Sword of the Lord, you have not quit.\par How long will you keep fighting?\par Go back into your scabbard! {\cf2\super [375]} \par Stop! Be still!\par

⁷ But how can the sword of the Lord rest?\par The Lord gave it a command.\par The Lord commanded it to attack\par the city of Ashkelon and the seacoast.”\par
