I was afflictedand about to diefrom my youthon; I sufferYour terrors;I am overcome.
"My spiritis broken,my daysare extinguished,The graveis [ready] for me.
"I cryout to You for help,but You do not answerme; I standup, and You turnYour attentionagainst me.
"For the arrowsof the Almightyare withinme, Their poisonmy spiritdrinks;The terrorsof Godare arrayedagainst me.
For You are the Godof my strength;whyhave You rejectedme? Whydo I gomourningbecause of the oppressionof the enemy?
For our soulhas sunkdowninto the dust;Our bodycleavesto the earth.
For I have been strickenalldaylong And chastenedevery morning.
But the LORDwas pleasedTo crushHim, putting[Him] to grief;IfHe would renderHimself[as] a guiltoffering,He will see[His] offspring,He will prolong[His] days,And the goodpleasureof the LORDwill prosperin His hand.
He was despisedand forsakenof men,A manof sorrowsand acquaintedwith grief;And like one from whom men hidetheir faceHe was despised,and we did not esteemHim.
"Awake,O sword,againstMy Shepherd,And againstthe man,My Associate,"Declaresthe LORDof hosts."Strikethe Shepherdthat the sheepmay be scattered;And I will turnMy handagainstthe littleones.
And beingin agonyHe was prayingveryfervently;and His sweatbecamelikedropsof blood,falling downupon the ground.
