A worthlessperson,a wickedman,Is the one who walkswith a perversemouth,
For the wickedboastsof his heart'sdesire,And the greedymancurses[and] spurnsthe LORD.
His mouthis fullof cursesand deceitand oppression;Underhis tongueis mischiefand wickedness.
I will setnoworthlessthingbeforemy eyes;I hatethe workof thosewhofallaway;It shall not fastenits gripon me.
The wordsof his mouthare wickednessand deceit;He has ceasedto be wise[and] to dogood.
Behold,they belchforthwith their mouth;Swordsare in their lips,For, [they say], "Whohears?"
The lipsof the righteousbringforthwhatis acceptable,But the mouthof the wickedwhatis perverted.
The righteousnessof the uprightwill deliverthem, But the treacherouswill be caughtby [their own] greed.
A worthlessmandigsup evil,Whilehis wordsare like scorchingfire.
He who winkshis eyes[does so] to deviseperversethings;He who compresseshis lipsbringsevilto pass.
An evildoerlistensto wickedlips;A liarpaysattentionto a destructivetongue.
To deliveryou from the wayof evil,From the manwho speaksperversethings;
For the deviousare an abominationto the LORD;But He is intimatewith the upright.
Putawayfrom you a deceitfulmouthAnd putdeviousspeechfarfrom you.
Who [with] perversityin his heartcontinuallydevisesevil,Who spreadsstrife.
"The fearof the LORDis to hateevil;Prideand arroganceand the evilwayAnd the pervertedmouth,I hate.
Onebaskethad verygoodfigs,like first-ripefigs,and the otherbaskethad verybadfigswhichcould not be eatendueto rottenness.
"You broodof vipers,howcanyou, beingevil,speakwhat is good?For the mouthspeaksout of that which fillsthe heart.
and from amongyour own selvesmenwill arise,speakingperverse things,to draw awaythe disciplesafterthem.
At the same timethey alsolearn[to be] idle,as they go aroundfrom house to house;and not merelyidle,but alsogossipsand busybodies,talkingabout things not proper[to mention].
Therefore,putting asideallfilthinessand [all] that remainsof wickedness,in humilityreceivethe wordimplanted,which is ableto saveyour souls.
And the tongueis a fire,the [very] worldof iniquity;the tongueis setamongour membersas that which defilesthe entirebody,and setson firethe courseof [our] life,and is set on fireby hell.
Now Eliabhis oldestbrotherheardwhen he spoketo the men;and Eliab'sangerburnedagainst Davidand he said,"Whyhave you comedown?And with whomhave you leftthosefewsheepin the wilderness?I knowyour insolenceand the wickednessof your heart;for you have comedownin orderto seethe battle."
