Edom,however, saidto him, "You shall not passthroughus, orI will comeout with the swordagainstyou."
Again, the sonsof Israelsaidto him, "We will goup by the highway,and ifI and my livestockdo drinkany of your water,then I will payits price.Let me onlypassthroughon my feet,nothing[else]."
But he said,"You shall not passthrough."And Edomcameout againsthim with a heavyforceand with a stronghand.
But Sihonwould not permitIsraelto passthroughhis border.So Sihongatheredallhis peopleand wentout againstIsraelin the wilderness,and cameto Jahazand foughtagainst Israel.
Then they setout from MountHorby the wayof the RedSea,to goaroundthe landof Edom;and the peoplebecameimpatientbecause of the journey.
"Edomshall be a possession,Seir,its enemies,also will be a possession,While Israelperformsvaliantly.
justas the sonsof Esauwho livein Seirand the Moabiteswho livein Ardidfor me, untilI crossoverthe Jordaninto the landwhichthe LORDour Godis givingto us.'
