deeds of coveting[and] wickedness,[as well] [as] deceit,sensuality,envy,slander,pride[and] foolishness.
Even[in the matter of] the envoysof the rulersof Babylon,who sentto him to inquireof the wonderthat had happenedin the land,Godlefthim [alone only] to testhim, that He might knowallthat was in his heart.
The wicked,in the haughtinessof his countenance,does not seek[Him]. Allhis thoughtsare, "Thereis noGod."
Inclinemy heartto Your testimoniesAnd not to [dishonest] gain.
A prudentmanconcealsknowledge,But the heartof foolsproclaimsfolly.
Foolishnessis boundup in the heartof a child;The rodof disciplinewill removeit farfrom him.
Do not eatthe breadof a selfishman,Or desirehis delicacies;
The devisingof follyis sin,And the scofferis an abominationto men.
Thoughyou pounda foolin a mortarwith a pestlealongwith crushedgrain,[Yet] his foolishnesswill not departfrom him.
A manwith an evileyehastensafter wealthAnd does not knowthat wantwill comeupon him.
I directedmy mindto know,to investigateand to seekwisdomand an explanation,and to knowthe evilof follyand the foolishnessof madness.
Transgressingand denyingthe LORD,And turningawayfrom our God,Speakingoppressionand revolt,Conceiving[in] and utteringfrom the heartlyingwords.
Their feetrunto evil,And they hastento shedinnocentblood;Their thoughtsare thoughtsof iniquity,Devastationand destructionare in their highways.
"The heartis moredeceitfulthanallelse And is desperatelysick;Whocan understandit?
Is it not lawfulfor me to dowhatI wishwith whatis my own?Oris your eyeenviousbecauseI amgenerous?'
"But ifyour eyeis bad,your wholebodywill be full of darkness.Ifthenthe lightthat is in you is darkness,how greatis the darkness!
"For from within,out of the heartof men,proceedthe evilthoughts,fornications,thefts,murders,adulteries,
"Alltheseevil thingsproceedfrom withinand defilethe man."
[We are] destroyingspeculationsand everylofty thingraisedup againstthe knowledgeof God,and [we are] takingeverythoughtcaptiveto the obedienceof Christ,
"Bewarethat there is nobasethoughtin your heart,saying,The seventhyear,the yearof remission,is near,'and your eyeis hostiletoward your poorbrother,and you givehim nothing;then he may cryto the LORDagainstyou, and it will be a sinin you.
"The manwho is refinedand verydelicateamong you shall be hostiletoward his brotherand toward the wifehe cherishesand toward the restof his childrenwhoremain,
"The refinedand delicatewomanamong you, whowould not ventureto setthe soleof her footon the groundfor delicatenessand refinement,shall be hostiletoward the husbandshe cherishesand toward her sonand daughter,
For suchis the willof Godthat by doing rightyou may silencethe ignoranceof foolishmen.
You younger men,likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another,for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
