Seeingat a distancea fig treein leaf,He went[to see] ifperhapsHe would findanythingon it; and when He cameto it, He foundnothingbut leaves,for it was not the seasonfor figs.
He dugit all around,removedits stones,And plantedit with the choicestvine.And He builta towerin the middleof it And alsohewedout a winevatin it; Then He expected[it] to produce[good] grapes,But it produced[only] worthlessones.
For the vineyardof the LORDof hostsis the houseof IsraelAnd the menof JudahHis delightfulplant.Thus He lookedfor justice,but behold,bloodshed;For righteousness,but behold,a cryof distress.
Seeinga lonefigtreeby the road,He cameto it and foundnothingon it exceptleavesonly;and He saidto it, "Nolongershall there everbe [any] fruitfrom you." And at oncethe fig treewithered.
On the next day,when they had leftBethany,He became hungry.
He saidto it, "May no oneevereatfruitfrom you again!"And His discipleswere listening.
"And by chancea priestwas going downon that road,and when he sawhim, he passed by on the other side.
So she departedand wentand gleanedin the fieldafterthe reapers;and she happenedto cometo the portionof the fieldbelonging to Boaz,whowas of the familyof Elimelech.
"Watch,ifit goesup by the wayof its own territoryto Beth-shemesh,then He has doneus thisgreatevil.But ifnot, then we will knowthat it was not His handthat struckus; it happenedto us by chance."
