So as to deprivethe needyof justiceAnd robthe poorof My peopleof [their] rights,So that widowsmay be their spoilAnd that they may plunderthe orphans.
"They have treatedfatherand motherlightlywithin you. The alienthey have oppressedin your midst;the fatherlessand the widowthey have wrongedin you.
"They cometo you as peoplecome,and sitbeforeyou [as] My peopleand hearyour words,but they do not dothem, for they dothe lustfuldesires[expressed] by their mouth,[and] their heartgoesaftertheir gain.
"These who pantafterthe [very] dustof the earthon the headof the helplessAlso turnasidethe wayof the humble;And a manand his fatherresortto the same girlIn orderto profaneMy holyname.
They covetfieldsand then seize[them], And houses,and take[them] away. They roba manand his house,A manand his inheritance.
"RecentlyMy peoplehave arisenas an enemy--You stripthe robeoffthe garmentFrom unsuspectingpassers-by,[From] those returnedfrom war.
"You who hategoodand loveevil,Who tearofftheir skinfrom them And their fleshfrom their bones,
"But woeto you, scribesand Pharisees,hypocrites,becauseyou shutoff the kingdomof heavenfrom people;for you do not enterin yourselves,nordo you allowthosewho are enteringto goin.
["Woeto you, scribesand Pharisees,hypocrites,becauseyou devourwidows'houses,and for a pretenseyou makelongprayers;thereforeyou will receivegreatercondemnation].

Underthesecircumstances,after so many thousandsof peoplehad gathered togetherthat they were steppingon one another,He begansayingto His disciplesfirst[of all, ]"Bewareof the leavenof the Pharisees,whichis hypocrisy.
"Bewareof the scribes,who liketo walk aroundin long robes,and loverespectful greetingsin the market places,and chief seatsin the synagoguesand places of honorat banquets,
And He lookedup and sawthe richputtingtheir giftsinto the treasury.
For we nevercamewith flatteringspeech,as you know,norwith a pretextfor greed--Godis witness--
They professto knowGod,but by [their] deedsthey deny[Him], beingdetestableand disobedientand worthlessfor anygooddeed.
Let not many[of you] becometeachers,my brethren,knowingthat as such we will incura stricterjudgment.
