"And you, Capernaum,will not be exaltedto heaven,will you? You will be brought downto Hades!
They said,"Come,let us buildfor ourselves a city,and a towerwhose top[will reach] into heaven,and let us makefor ourselves a name,otherwisewe will be scatteredabroad overthe faceof the wholeearth."
ThereforeSheolhas enlargedits throatand openedits mouthwithoutmeasure;And Jerusalem's splendor,her multitude,her din[of revelry] and the jubilantwithin her, descend[into it].
"ThoughBabylonshould ascendto the heavens,And thoughshe should fortifyher loftystronghold,From Me destroyerswill cometo her," declaresthe LORD.
then I will bringyou downwith those who godownto the pit,to the peopleof old,and I will make you dwellin the lowerpartsof the earth,like the ancientwasteplaces,with those who godownto the pit,sothat you will not be inhabited;but I will setgloryin the landof the living.
"To whichamong the treesof Edenare you thusequalin gloryand greatness?Yet you will be broughtdownwith the treesof Edento the earthbeneath;you will liein the midstof the uncircumcised,with those who were slainby the sword.So is Pharaohand allhis hordes!"'declaresthe LordGOD."
"Sonof man,wailfor the hordesof Egyptand bringit down,her and the daughtersof the powerfulnations,to the netherworld,with those who godownto the pit;
"They shall fallin the midstof those who are slainby the sword.She is givenover to the sword;they have drawnher and allher hordesaway.
"Nordo they liebesidethe fallenheroesof the uncircumcised,whowentdownto Sheolwith their weaponsof warand whose swordswere laidundertheir heads;but the punishmentfor their iniquityrestedon their bones,thoughthe terrorof [these] heroes[was once] in the landof the living.
"Thoughyou buildhighlike the eagle,Thoughyou setyour nestamongthe stars,From thereI will bringyou down,"declaresthe LORD.
"Do not fearthosewho killthe bodybut are unableto killthe soul;but ratherfearHim who is ableto destroybothsouland bodyin hell.
"And you, Capernaum,will not be exaltedto heaven,will you? You will descendto Hades;for ifthe miracleshad occurredin Sodomwhich occurredin you, it would have remainedto this day.
and leavingNazareth,He cameand settledin Capernaum,which is by the sea,in the regionof Zebulunand Naphtali.
"In that placetherewill be weepingand gnashingof teethwhenyou seeAbrahamand Isaacand Jacoband allthe prophetsin the kingdomof God,but yourselvesbeing thrownout.
"In Hadeshe liftedup his eyes,beingin torment,and sawAbrahamfarawayand Lazarusin his bosom.
Wherecan we goup? Our brethrenhave made our heartsmelt,saying,"The peopleare biggerand tallerthanwe; the citiesare largeand fortifiedto heaven.And besides,we sawthe sonsof the Anakimthere."'
For ifGoddid not spareangelswhen they sinned,but cast them into helland committedthem to pitsof darkness,reservedfor judgment;
