You crossedthe Jordanand cameto Jericho;and the citizensof Jerichofoughtagainst you, [and] the Amoriteand the Perizziteand the Canaaniteand the Hittiteand the Girgashite,the Hiviteand the Jebusite.Thus I gavethem into your hand.

He gavethem also the landsof the nations,That they might takepossessionof [the fruit of] the peoples'labor,
The sealookedand fled;The Jordanturnedback.
Whatails you, O sea,that you flee?O Jordan,that you turnback?
"It shall be whenthe LORDbringsyou to the landof the Canaanite,the Hittite,the Amorite,the Hiviteand the Jebusite,whichHe sworeto your fathersto giveyou, a landflowingwith milkand honey,that you shall observethisritein thismonth.
"For My angelwill gobeforeyou and bringyou in to [the land of] the Amorites,the Hittites,the Perizzites,the Canaanites,the Hivitesand the Jebusites;and I will completelydestroythem.
"I will sendhornetsaheadof you so that they will driveout the Hivites,the Canaanites,and the Hittitesbeforeyou.
"I will fixyour boundaryfrom the RedSeato the seaof the Philistines,and from the wildernessto the River[Euphrates]; for I will deliverthe inhabitantsof the landinto your hand,and you will drivethem out beforeyou.
"So I said,I will bringyou up out of the afflictionof Egyptto the landof the Canaaniteand the Hittiteand the Amoriteand the Perizziteand the Hiviteand the Jebusite,to a landflowingwith milkand honey."'
"So I have comedownto deliverthem from the powerof the Egyptians,and to bringthem up from that landto a goodand spaciousland,to a landflowingwith milkand honey,to the placeof the Canaaniteand the Hittiteand the Amoriteand the Perizziteand the Hiviteand the Jebusite.
"I will sendan angelbeforeyou and I will driveout the Canaanite,the Amorite,the Hittite,the Perizzite,the Hiviteand the Jebusite.
"When He had destroyedsevennationsin the landof Canaan,He distributedtheir landas an inheritance--[all of which took] aboutfour hundredand fiftyyears.
"And having received it in their turn,our fathersbroughtit in with Joshuaupon dispossessingthe nationswhomGoddroveout beforeour fathers,untilthe timeof David.
"Whenthe LORDyour Godbringsyou into the landwhereyou are enteringto possessit, and clearsawaymanynationsbeforeyou, the Hittitesand the Girgashitesand the Amoritesand the Canaanitesand the Perizzitesand the Hivitesand the Jebusites,sevennationsgreaterand strongerthanyou,
Joshuasaid,"By thisyou shall knowthat the livingGodis amongyou, and that He will assuredlydispossessfrom beforeyou the Canaanite,the Hittite,the Hivite,the Perizzite,the Girgashite,the Amorite,and the Jebusite.
Now whenallthe nationhad finishedcrossingthe Jordan,the LORDspoketo Joshua,saying,
Now the peoplecameup from the Jordanon the tenthof the firstmonthand campedat Gilgalon the easternedgeof Jericho.
"For the LORDyour Goddriedup the watersof the Jordanbeforeyou untilyou had crossed,justas the LORDyour Godhad doneto the RedSea,whichHe driedup beforeus untilwe had crossed;
that they gatheredthemselves togetherwith oneaccordto fightwith Joshuaand with Israel.
