When the sonsof IsraelfledbeforeJudah,Godgavethem into their hand.
"I will fixyour boundaryfrom the RedSeato the seaof the Philistines,and from the wildernessto the River[Euphrates]; for I will deliverthe inhabitantsof the landinto your hand,and you will drivethem out beforeyou.
And He said,"My presenceshall go[with you], and I will giveyou rest."
As the cattlewhich godowninto the valley,The Spiritof the LORDgavethem rest.SoYou ledYour people,To makefor Yourself a gloriousname.
"From Aroerwhichis on the edgeof the valleyof Arnonand [from] the citywhichis in the valley,even to Gilead,there was nocitythat was toohighfor us; the LORDour Goddeliveredalloverto us.
"Whenyou goout to battleagainstyour enemies,and the LORDyour Goddeliversthem into your handsand you takethem away captive,
Sothere remainsa Sabbath restfor the peopleof God.
"Rememberthe wordwhichMosesthe servantof the LORDcommandedyou, saying,The LORDyour Godgivesyou restand will giveyou thisland.'
untilthe LORDgivesyour brothersrest,as [He gives] you, and they alsopossessthe landwhichthe LORDyour Godis givingthem. Then you shall returnto your ownland,and possessthat whichMosesthe servantof the LORDgaveyou beyondthe Jordantoward the sunrise."
"Nomanwill [be able to] standbeforeyou allthe daysof your life.Justas I have beenwith Moses,I will be with you; I will not failyou or forsakeyou.
Joshuacapturedallthe citiesof thesekings,and alltheir kings,and he struckthem with the edgeof the sword,[and] utterlydestroyedthem; justas Mosesthe servantof the LORDhad commanded.
So Joshuatookthe wholeland,according to allthat the LORDhad spokento Moses,and Joshuagaveit for an inheritanceto Israelaccording to their divisionsby their tribes.Thus the landhadrestfrom war.
The LORDdeliveredthem into the handof Israel,so that they defeatedthem, and pursuedthem as faras GreatSidonand Misrephoth-maimand the valleyof Mizpehto the east;and they struckthem untilnosurvivorwas leftto them.
They saidto Joshua,"Surelythe LORDhas givenallthe landinto our hands;moreover,allthe inhabitantsof the landhave meltedawaybeforeus."
"And nowthe LORDyour Godhas givenrestto your brothers,as He spoketo them; therefore turnnowand goto your tents,to the landof your possession,whichMosesthe servantof the LORDgaveyou beyondthe Jordan.
The sonsof Reubenand the sonsof Gadand the half-tribeof Manassehreturned[home] and departedfrom the sonsof Israelat Shilohwhichis in the landof Canaan,to goto the landof Gilead,to the landof their possessionwhichthey had possessed,accordingto the commandof the LORDthroughMoses.
