Then Jeremiahthe prophetsaidto Hananiahthe prophet,"Listennow,Hananiah,the LORDhas not sentyou, and you have made thispeopletrustin a lie.
"Nowtherefore, behold,the LORDhas puta deceivingspiritin the mouthof alltheseyour prophets;and the LORDhas proclaimeddisasteragainstyou."
And you, Pashhur,and allwho livein your housewill gointo captivity;and you will enterBabylon,and thereyou will dieand thereyou will be buried,you and allyour friendsto whomyou have falselyprophesied.'"
"I did not send[these] prophets,But they ran.I did not speakto them, But they prophesied.
"Behold,I am againstthe prophets,"declaresthe LORD,"who usetheir tonguesand declare,'[The Lord] declares.'
for I have not sentthem," declaresthe LORD,"but they prophesyfalselyin My name,in orderthat I may driveyou out and that you may perish,you and the prophetswho prophesyto you."
Hananiahspokein the presenceof allthe people,saying,"Thussaysthe LORD,'Evensowill I breakwithintwofullyearsthe yokeof Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonfrom the neckof allthe nations.'"Then the prophetJeremiahwenthis way.
becausethey have actedfoolishlyin Israel,and have committedadulterywith their neighbors'wivesand have spokenwordsin My namefalsely,whichI did not commandthem; and I am He who knowsand am a witness,"declaresthe LORD.'"
"For thussaysthe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel,Do not let your prophetswhoare in your midstand your divinersdeceiveyou, and do not listento the dreamswhichthey dream.
"Behold,you are trustingin deceptivewordsto noavail.
Your prophetshave seenfor you false and foolish[visions]; And they have not exposedyour iniquitySo as to restoreyou from captivity,But they have seenfor you false and misleadingoracles.
"Becauseyou disheartenedthe righteouswith falsehoodwhen I did not causehim grief,but have encouragedthe wickednot to turnfrom his wickedway[and] preservehis life,
"They seefalsehoodand lyingdivinationwho are saying,'The LORDdeclares,'when the LORDhas not sentthem; yet they hopefor the fulfillmentof [their] word.
"So My handwill be againstthe prophetswho seefalse~visionsand utterlyingdivinations.They will havenoplacein the councilof My people,norwill they be writtendownin the registerof the houseof Israel,norwill they enterthe landof Israel,that you may knowthat I am the LordGOD.
"Her prophetshave smearedwhitewashfor them, seeingfalse~visionsand diviningliesfor them, saying,'Thussaysthe LordGOD,'when the LORDhas not spoken.
"And ifanyonestillprophesies,then his fatherand motherwho gavebirthto him will sayto him, 'You shall not live,for you have spokenfalselyin the nameof the LORD;and his fatherand motherwho gavebirthto him will piercehim throughwhen he prophesies.
"Ifyour brother,your mother'sson,oryour sonordaughter,orthe wifeyou cherish,oryour friendwhois as your own soul,enticeyou secretly,saying,Let us goand serveothergods(whomneitheryou noryour fathershave known,
But the prophetwhospeaksa wordpresumptuouslyin My namewhichI have not commandedhim to speak,or whichhe speaksin the nameof othergods,that prophetshall die.'
