Pashhurhad Jeremiahthe prophetbeatenand puthim in the stocksthat were at the upperBenjaminGate,whichwas by the houseof the LORD.
Now when the kingheardthe sayingof the manof God,whichhe criedagainstthe altarin Bethel,Jeroboamstretchedout his handfrom the altar,saying,"Seizehim." But his handwhichhe stretchedout againsthim driedup, so that he couldnot drawit backto himself.
and say,'Thussaysthe king,"Putthisman in prisonand feedhim sparinglywith breadand wateruntilI returnsafely."'"
Then Asawas angrywith the seerand puthim in prison,for he was enragedat him for this.And Asaoppressedsomeof the peopleat the sametime.
Then Zedekiahthe sonof Chenaanahcamenearand struckMicaiahon the cheekand said,"Howdid the Spiritof the LORDpassfrom me to speakto you?"
So they conspiredagainsthim and at the commandof the kingthey stonedhim to deathin the courtof the houseof the LORD.
"You putmy feetin the stocksAnd watchallmy paths;You seta limitfor the solesof my feet,
He putsmy feetin the stocks;He watchesallmy paths.'
"They will fightagainstyou, but they will not overcomeyou, for I am with you to deliveryou," declaresthe LORD.
When the officialsof Judahheardthesethings,they cameup from the king'shouseto the houseof the LORDand satin the entranceof the NewGateof the LORD'S[house].
When Jeremiahfinishedspeakingallthat the LORDhad commanded[him] to speakto allthe people,the priestsand the prophetsand allthe peopleseizedhim, saying,"You mustdie!
"The LORDhas madeyou priestinsteadof Jehoiadathe priest,to be the overseerin the houseof the LORDover everymadmanwho prophesies,to puthim in the stocksand in the ironcollar,
And the kingcommandedJerahmeelthe king'sson,Seraiahthe sonof Azriel,and Shelemiahthe sonof Abdeelto seizeBaruchthe scribeand Jeremiahthe prophet,but the LORDhidthem.
While he was at the Gateof Benjamin,a captainof the guardwhose namewas Irijah,the sonof Shelemiahthe sonof Hananiahwas there;and he arrestedJeremiahthe prophet,saying,"You are goingoverto the Chaldeans!"
Then KingZedekiahgavecommandment,and they committedJeremiahto the courtof the guardhouseand gavehim a loafof breaddailyfrom the bakers'street,untilallthe breadin the citywas gone.So Jeremiahremainedin the courtof the guardhouse.
Allthe landwill be changedinto a plainfrom Gebato Rimmonsouthof Jerusalem;but Jerusalem will riseand remainon its sitefrom Benjamin'sGateas faras the placeof the FirstGateto the CornerGate,and from the Towerof Hananelto the king'swinepresses.
"The vine-growerstookhis slavesand beatone,and killedanother,and stoneda third.
And they laidhandson them and putthem in jailuntilthe next day,for it was alreadyevening.
They laidhandson the apostlesand putthem in a publicjail.
They took his advice;and after callingthe apostlesin, they floggedthem and orderedthem not to speakin the nameof Jesus,and [then] releasedthem.
"Which oneof the prophetsdid your fathersnot persecute?They killedthosewho had previously announcedthe comingof the Righteous One,whosebetrayersand murderersyou have nowbecome;
And I sawthe womandrunkwith the bloodof the saints,and with the bloodof the witnessesof Jesus.When I sawher, I wonderedgreatly.
Do not fearwhatyou are aboutto suffer.Behold,the devilis aboutto castsome of you into prison,sothat you will be tested,and you will havetribulationfor tendays.Be faithfuluntildeath,and I will giveyou the crownof life.
