"Thussaysthe LORD,'Justsowill I destroythe prideof Judahand the greatprideof Jerusalem.
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
We have heardof the prideof Moab,an excessivepride;[Even] of his arrogance,pride,and fury;His idleboastsare false.
The LORDof hostshas plannedit, to defilethe prideof allbeauty,To despiseallthe honoredof the earth.
Then the wordof the LORDcameto me, saying,
Jerusalemand the citiesof Judahand its kings[and] its princes,to makethem a ruin,a horror,a hissingand a curse,as it is thisday;
"We have heardof the prideof Moab--he [is] veryproud--Of his haughtiness,his pride,his arroganceand his self-exaltation.
"Thus they were haughtyand committedabominationsbeforeMe. Therefore I removedthem whenI saw[it].
"As [the name of] your sisterSodomwas not heardfrom your lipsin your dayof pride,
I will also breakdownyour prideof power;I will also makeyour skylike ironand your earthlike bronze.
For the LORDwill restorethe splendorof JacobLike the splendorof Israel,Even thoughdevastatorshave devastatedthem And destroyedtheir vinebranches.
"In that dayyou will feelnoshameBecauseof allyour deedsBy whichyou have rebelledagainst Me; For thenI will removefrom your midstYour proud,exultingones,And you will neveragainbe haughtyOn My holymountain.
"I tellyou, this manwentto his housejustifiedrather thanthe other;for everyonewho exaltshimselfwill be humbled,but he who humbleshimselfwill be exalted."
But He givesa greatergrace.Therefore[it] says,"GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE."
You younger men,likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another,for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
