At eveningtime,behold,[there is] terror!Beforemorningthey are nomore.Such[will be] the portionof those who plunderus And the lotof those who pillageus.
They saidto him, "ThussaysHezekiah,'Thisdayis a dayof distress,rebuke,and rejection;for childrenhave cometo birthand thereis nostrengthto [deliver].
Then it happenedthat nightthat the angelof the LORDwentout and struck185000in the campof the Assyrians;and when men roseearlyin the morning,behold,allof them were dead.
"Thisis the wickedman'sportionfrom God,Even the heritagedecreedto him by God."
Then he passedaway,and lo,he was nomore;I soughtfor him, but he could not be found.
For the LORDwill pleadtheir caseAnd takethe lifeof those who robthem.
"For in a verylittlewhileMy indignation[against you] will be spentand My anger[will be directed] to their destruction."
The watchmansays,"Morningcomesbut alsonight.Ifyou would inquire,inquire;Comebackagain."
I will bringdistressto Ariel,And she will be [a city of] lamentingand mourning;And she will be like an Arielto me.
But the multitudeof your enemieswill becomelike finedust,And the multitudeof the ruthlessoneslike the chaffwhich blowsaway;And it will happeninstantly,suddenly.
And the multitudeof allthe nationswho wagewaragainstAriel,Even allwho wagewaragainst her and her stronghold,and who distressher, Will be like a dream,a visionof the night.
His breathis like an overflowingtorrent,Which reachesto the neck,To shakethe nationsbackand forthin a sieve,And to [put] in the jawsof the peoplesthe bridlewhich leadsto ruin.
Woeto you, O destroyer,While you were not destroyed;And he who is treacherous,while [others] did not dealtreacherouslywith him. As soon as you finishdestroying,you will be destroyed;As soon as you ceaseto dealtreacherously,[others] will dealtreacherouslywith you.
Your heartwill meditateon terror:"Whereis he who counts?Whereis he who weighs?Whereis he who countsthe towers?"
He has castthe lotfor them, And His handhas dividedit to them by line.They shall possessit forever;From generationto generationthey will dwellin it.
"You will seekthosewhoquarrelwith you, but will not findthem, Thosewhowarwith you will be as nothingand non-existent.
"Thisis your lot,the portionmeasuredto you From Me," declaresthe LORD,"Becauseyou have forgottenMe And trustedin falsehood.
"Israelwas holyto the LORD,The firstof His harvest.Allwho ateof it becameguilty;Evilcameupon them," declaresthe LORD.'"
"But I have strippedEsaubare,I have uncoveredhis hidingplacesSo that he will not be ableto concealhimself; His offspringhas been destroyedalong with his relativesAnd his neighbors,and he is nomore.
"They will not takewoodfrom the fieldor gatherfirewoodfrom the forests,for they will makefireswith the weapons;and they will takethe spoilof those who despoiledthem and seizethe plunderof those who plunderedthem," declaresthe LordGOD.
"The LORDwill possessJudahas His portionin the holyland,and will againchooseJerusalem.
"Thuslet allYour enemiesperish,O LORD;But let those who loveHim be like the risingof the sunin its might."And the landwas undisturbedfor fortyyears.
