When the lettercameto them, they tookthe king'ssonsand slaughtered[them], seventypersons,and puttheir headsin baskets,and sent[them] to him at Jezreel.
Then Shallumthe sonof Jabeshconspiredagainsthim and struckhim beforethe peopleand killedhim, and reignedin his place.
Then Menahemsonof Gadiwentup from Tirzahand cameto Samaria,and struckShallumsonof Jabeshin Samaria,and killedhim and becamekingin his place.
Then Pekahsonof Remaliah,his officer,conspiredagainsthim and struckhim in Samaria,in the castleof the king'shousewith Argoband Arieh;and with him were fiftymenof the Gileadites,and he killedhim and becamekingin his place.
And Hosheathe sonof Elahmadea conspiracyagainstPekahthe sonof Remaliah,and struckhim and puthim to deathand becamekingin his place,in the twentiethyearof Jothamthe sonof Uzziah.
And Jehudrewhis bowwith his fullstrengthand shotJorambetweenhis arms;and the arrowwentthroughhis heartand he sankin his chariot.
He said,"Throwher down."So they threwher down,and someof her bloodwas sprinkledon the walland on the horses,and he trampledher under foot.
"But the godlessin heartlayup anger;They do not cryfor helpwhenHe bindsthem.
Do allthe workersof wickednessnot know,Who eatup my people[as] they eatbread,[And] do not callupon the Lord?
"Yet you have not calledon Me, O Jacob;But you have becomewearyof Me, O Israel.
For from daysof oldthey have not heardorperceivedby ear,Norhas the eyeseena GodbesidesYou, Who actsin behalf of the one who waitsfor Him.
For allof us have becomelike one who is unclean,And allour righteousdeedsare like a filthygarment;And allof us witherlike a leaf,And our iniquities,like the wind,takeus away.
Thereis noonewho callson Your name,Who arouseshimself to takeholdof You; For You have hiddenYour facefrom us And have deliveredus into the powerof our iniquities.
Yet the peopledo not turnbackto Him who struckthem, Nordo they seekthe LORDof hosts.
"I searchedfor a manamongthem who would buildup the walland standin the gapbeforeMe for the land,sothat I would not destroyit; but I foundnoone.
"As it is writtenin the lawof Moses,allthiscalamityhas comeon us; yet we have not soughtthe favorof the LORDour Godby turningfrom our iniquityand givingattentionto Your truth.
Wherenowis your kingThat he may saveyou in allyour cities,And your judgesof whomyou requested,"Giveme a kingand princes"?
I will goaway [and] returnto My placeUntilthey acknowledgetheir guiltand seekMy face;In their afflictionthey will earnestlyseekMe.
Though the prideof Israeltestifiesagainsthim, Yet they have not returnedto the LORDtheir God,Norhave they soughtHim, for allthis.
And they do not cryto Me from their heartWhenthey wailon their beds;For the sakeof grainand newwinethey assemblethemselves, They turnawayfrom Me.
They have setup kings,but not by Me; They have appointedprinces,but I did not know[it]. With their silverand goldthey have madeidolsfor themselves, That they might be cutoff.
Woeto those who schemeiniquity,Who workout evilon their beds!When morningcomes, they doit, For it is in the powerof their hands.
