Do not concernyourselveswith your goods,for the bestof allthe landof Egyptis yours.'"
Abimelechsaid,"Behold,my landis beforeyou; settlewherever you please."
and takeyour fatherand your householdsand cometo me, and I will giveyou the bestof the landof Egyptand you will eatthe fatof the land.'
"Now you are ordered,'Dothis:takewagonsfrom the landof Egyptfor your littleonesand for your wives,and bringyour fatherand come.
Then the sonsof Israeldidso;and Josephgavethem wagonsaccordingto the commandof Pharaoh,and gavethem provisionsfor the journey.
"The landof Egyptis at your disposal;settleyour fatherand your brothersin the bestof the land,let them livein the landof Goshen;and ifyou knowanycapablemenamong them, then putthem in chargeof my livestock."
So nowdo not giveyour daughtersto their sonsnortaketheir daughtersto your sons,and neverseektheir peaceor their prosperity,that you may be strongand eatthe good[things] of the landand leave[it] as an inheritanceto your sonsforever.'
"Ifa mangiveshis neighbormoneyorgoodsto keep[for him] and it is stolenfrom the man'shouse,ifthe thiefis caught,he shall paydouble.
"Ifyou consentand obey,You will eatthe bestof the land;
And [their] bowswill mowdownthe youngmen,They will not even havecompassionon the fruitof the womb,[Nor] will their eyepitychildren.
"Yet My eyesparedthem ratherthandestroyingthem, and I did not causetheir annihilationin the wilderness.
For My eyewill havenopityon you, norwill I spare[you], but I will bringyour waysupon you, and your abominationswill be amongyou; then you will knowthat I am the LORD!'
My eyewill shownopitynorwill I spare.I will repayyou according to your ways,while your abominationsare in your midst;then you will knowthat I, the LORD,do the smiting.
But to the othersHe saidin my hearing,"Gothrough the cityafterhim and strike;do not let your eyehavepityand do not spare.
"Whoeveris on the housetopmust not go downto getthe things out that are in his house.
"On that day,the one whois on the housetopand whosegoodsare in the housemust not go downto takethem out; and likewisethe one whois in the fieldmust not turnback.
"You shall not pityhim, but you shall purgethe bloodof the innocentfrom Israel,that it may gowellwith you.
"Thus you shall not showpity:lifefor life,eyefor eye,toothfor tooth,handfor hand,footfor foot.
"You shall consumeallthe peopleswhomthe LORDyour Godwill deliverto you; your eyeshall not pitythem, norshall you servetheir gods,for that [would be] a snareto you.
"Israelhas sinned,and they have alsotransgressedMy covenantwhichI commandedthem. And they have eventakensomeof the thingsunderthe banand have bothstolenand deceived.Moreover, they have alsoput[them] among their own things.
Therefore they inquiredfurtherof the LORD,"Has the mancomehereyet?"So the LORDsaid,"Behold,he is hidinghimselfby the baggage."
Davidsaidto his men,"Each[of you] girdon his sword."So eachmangirdedon his sword.And Davidalsogirdedon his sword,and about fourhundredmenwentup behindDavidwhile two hundredstayedwith the baggage.
"And whowill listento you in thismatter?For as his shareis who goesdownto the battle,so shall his sharebe who staysby the baggage;they shall sharealike."
