Lamechtookto himself twowives:the nameof the onewas Adah,and the nameof the other,Zillah.
Listen,O daughter,giveattentionand inclineyour ear:Forgetyour peopleand your father'shouse;
An excellentwifeis the crownof her husband,But she who shames[him] is like rottennessin his bones.
That leavesthe companionof her youthAnd forgetsthe covenantof her God;
An excellentwife,whocan find?For her worthis farabovejewels.
Then when he arrivedand witnessedthe graceof God,he rejoicedand [began] to encouragethem allwith resoluteheartto remain[true] to the Lord;
For the marriedwomanis boundby lawto her husbandwhile he is living;but ifher husbanddies,she is releasedfrom the lawconcerning the husband.
"You shall fearthe LORDyour God;you shall serveHim and clingto Him, and you shall swearby His name.
"But you who heldfastto the LORDyour Godare alivetoday,everyoneof you.
Therefore,I wantyounger[widows] to get married,bear children,keep house,[and] givethe enemynooccasionfor reproach;
"But you are to clingto the LORDyour God,as you have doneto thisday.
Davidhad also takenAhinoamof Jezreel,and they bothbecamehis wives.
