Then Reubenspoketo his father,saying,"You may putmy twosonsto deathifI do not bringhim [back] to you; puthim in my care,and I will returnhim to you."
Aaronsaid,"Do not let the angerof my lordburn;you knowthe peopleyourself,that they are prone to evil.
He who correctsa scoffergetsdishonorfor himself, And he who reprovesa wickedman[gets] insultsfor himself.
"Is it not to divideyour breadwith the hungryAnd bringthe homelesspoorinto the house;Whenyou seethe naked,to coverhim; And not to hideyourself from your own flesh?
For he did not knowwhatto answer;for they becameterrified.
And why not [say] (as we are slanderously reportedand as someclaimthat we say),"Let us doevilthat goodmay come"? Their condemnationis just.
Then the man,the ownerof the house,wentout to them and saidto them, "No,my fellows,pleasedo not actso wickedly;sincethismanhas comeinto my house,do not committhisactof folly.
"Hereis my virgindaughterand his concubine.Pleaselet me bringthem out that you may ravishthem and doto them whatever you wish.But do not commitsuchan actof follyagainst thisman."
"The bramblesaidto the trees,'Ifin truthyou are anointingme as kingoveryou, comeand takerefugein my shade;but ifnot, may firecomeout from the brambleand consumethe cedarsof Lebanon.'
