As they were striking[the people] and I [alone] was left,I fellon my faceand criedout saying,"Alas,LordGOD!Are You destroyingthe wholeremnantof Israelby pouringout Your wrathon Jerusalem?"
Abrahamcamenearand said,"Will You indeedsweepawaythe righteouswith the wicked?
Then Davidliftedup his eyesand sawthe angelof the LORDstandingbetweenearthand heaven,with his drawnswordin his handstretchedout overJerusalem.Then Davidand the elders,coveredwith sackcloth,fellon their faces.
But at the eveningofferingI arosefrom my humiliation,even with my garmentand my robetorn,and I fellon my kneesand stretchedout my handsto the LORDmy God;
But, "Ah,LordGOD!"I said,"Look,the prophetsare tellingthem, 'You will not seethe swordnorwill you havefamine,but I will giveyou lastingpeacein thisplace.'"
Have You completelyrejectedJudah?Orhave You loathedZion?Whyhave You strickenus so that we are beyondhealing?[We] waitedfor peace,but nothinggood[came]; And for a timeof healing,but behold,terror!
Then I said,"Ah,LordGOD!SurelyYou have utterlydeceivedthispeopleand Jerusalem,saying,You will havepeace;whereas a swordtouchesthe throat."
Now it cameabout as I prophesied,that Pelatiahsonof Benaiahdied.Then I fellon my faceand criedout with a loudvoiceand said,"Alas,LordGOD!Will You bringthe remnantof Israelto a completeend?"
But I said,"Ah,LordGOD!Behold,I have neverbeendefiled;for from my youthuntilnowI have nevereatenwhatdiedof itself or was tornby beasts,norhas any uncleanmeatever enteredmy mouth."
NowI will shortlypourout My wrathon you and spendMy angeragainst you; judgeyou according to your waysand bringon you allyour abominations.
Then Mosesand Aaronfellon their facesin the presenceof allthe assemblyof the congregationof the sonsof Israel.
When Mosesheard[this], he fellon his face;
"Getawayfrom amongthiscongregation,that I may consumethem instantly."Then they fellon their faces.
"I felldownbeforethe LORD,as at the first,fortydaysand nights;I neitheratebreadnordrankwater,becauseof allyour sinwhichyou had committedin doingwhatwas evilin the sightof the LORDto provokeHim to anger.
Then Joshuatorehis clothesand fellto the earthon his facebeforethe arkof the LORDuntilthe evening,[both] he and the eldersof Israel;and they putduston their heads.
