Then he tookthe bookof the covenantand read[it] in the hearingof the people;and they said,"Allthat the LORDhas spokenwe will do,and we will be obedient!"
Therewas nothingin the arkexceptthe twotabletsof stonewhichMosesputthereat Horeb,wherethe LORDmadea covenant with the sonsof Israel,when they cameout of the landof Egypt.
Moreover, they madean oathto the LORDwith a loudvoice,with shouting,with trumpetsand with horns.
"GatherMy godlyonesto Me, Those who have madea covenantwith Me by sacrifice."
But they deceivedHim with their mouthAnd liedto Him with their tongue.
Allthe peopleansweredtogetherand said,"Allthat the LORDhas spokenwe will do!"And Mosesbroughtbackthe wordsof the peopleto the LORD.
"Thussaysthe LORDGodof Israel,I madea covenantwith your forefathersin the daythat I broughtthem out of the landof Egypt,from the houseof bondage,saying,
"Whether[it] is pleasantorunpleasant,we will listento the voiceof the LORDour Godto whomwe are sendingyou, sothat it may gowellwith us whenwe listento the voiceof the LORDour God."
"Then I passedby you and sawyou, and behold,you were at the timefor love;so I spreadMy skirtoveryou and coveredyour nakedness.I also sworeto you and enteredinto a covenantwith you so that you becameMine," declaresthe LordGOD.
"Do we not allhave onefather?Has not oneGodcreatedus? Whydo we dealtreacherouslyeachagainst his brotherso as to profanethe covenantof our fathers?
Afterthe readingof the Lawand the Prophetsthe synagogue officialssentto them, saying,"Brethren,ifyou have anywordof exhortationfor the people,sayit."
Whenthisletteris readamongyou, haveit alsoreadin the churchof the Laodiceans;and you, for your part readmy letter [that is coming] from Laodicea.
I adjureyou by the Lordto have thisletterreadto allthe brethren.
The peoplesaidto Joshua,"We will servethe LORDour Godand we will obeyHis voice."
